Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House

The Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House are two majestic mansions built in the late 1800s by Charles Deere, son of John Deere.

The homes are open for guided tours at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The tours begin at the Deere-Wiman House. The outstanding gardens are open for viewing any time during daylight hours. Donations appreciated. Check the website for additional summer and fall tour times.

At the Butterworth Center, you will be amazed by the prized Venetian Art Ceiling - the 50-foot canvas ceiling painting was purchased by William and Katherine Butterworth, granddaughter of John Deere, from P.W. French and Company of New York in 1917. The art was never signed; it came from Hotel Danieli. New discoveries have revealed that the ceiling painting was completed in the 1710s or 1720s by Gaspar Diziani, a significant artist of the 18th century and was commissioned by the Bernando family.
